GRAPE VARIETIES: 82% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc
TASTING NOTES: This is a delicious wine with its ripe fruits and soft tannins. It has a touch of spice, as well as bright acidity along with a touch of smokiness from the wood aging. Rich and generous, it will mature quickly.
Jonathan Maltus is a Saint Emilion winemaker who was a key part of the ‘cult’ movement (vins de garage period) that thrived in Saint Emilion during the latter part of the 1990’s. Unlike other winemakers, Maltus applies a Burgundian vision of property in Bordeaux: Château owners in Bordeaux blend their different plots in a clever assemblage, when Maltus thinks in terms of terroirs as Burgundians do: He does not blend.
Being the owner of Château Teyssier, a grand cru in Saint-Emilion, and other garage wines; he is the first Englishman in Bordeaux to win a perfect 100 score from the influential critic Robert Parker (with Le Dome 2010). Maltus’s wines gained a reputation for being unique as for being top quality.
