MIGUEL A. TORRES AWARDED THE CREU DE SANT JORDI FOR HIS CONTRIBUTION TO VITICULTURE AND THE TERRITORY

Miguel A. Torres , president of Familia Torres and a fourth-generation member of the family business, has been awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi 2026 by the Government of Catalonia in recognition of his career in the wine sector and his decisive contribution to the international projection of Catalan wines. This award also highlights his unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability, which have positioned Familia Torres as one of the world's leading wine producers. The Creu de Sant Jordi, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon an individual or organization within the Catalan institutional sphere, will be presented to him on April 21st at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) by the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa.

A trained oenologist, Miguel A. Torres joined the family business in 1962 and has played a key role in the transformation and modernization of Familia Torres. He introduced advanced winemaking techniques and spearheaded the production of exceptional wines from estate vineyards such as Mas La Plana, Milmanda, and Grans Muralles, as well as the revival of ancestral grape varieties. Under his leadership, the company has consolidated its winemaking model based on excellence, innovation, and sustainability, and he has become a leading figure in contemporary Catalan oenology and in the international projection of the Catalan wine sector. 

The Creu de Sant Jordi was previously awarded to his father, Miguel Torres Carbó, in 1990, which gives this recognition a particularly poignant meaning for the family and the winery. In the words of Miguel A. Torres : "I am deeply proud to be able to continue the family legacy and to have contributed, from our winery, to projecting the name of Catalonia and its wines throughout the world. This distinction is also a recognition of my wife, Waltraud, for her constant support, and my children, Miquel and Mireia, who in recent years have made a decisive contribution to the success and continuity of the company."

The Government of Catalonia has awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi this year to 20 individuals and 10 organizations for their outstanding service. These awards, established in 1981, recognize individuals and institutions that have distinguished themselves through their merits and civic, cultural, social, or economic contributions, strengthening Catalonia's collective identity and international standing.
