The Château Léoville Barton is one of the must-have references of the Saint-Julien appellation. It was in 1725 that Thomas Barton, an Irishman by birth, settled in Bordeaux and founded his own wine trading company. Then in 1826, Hugh Barton, already owner of Château Langoa Barton to Saint-Julien, acquired part of Domaine of Léoville, which he renamed Léoville Barton. During the famous classification of 1855, Château Léoville Barton obtained the title of 2nd Grand Cru Classé. To this day, the Barton family is still in charge of Domaine, making them the oldest family still owning a Cru Classé of Bordeaux.
